USOTC & USOEC High Performance Plan
USAW Women's National Staff
USA Wrestling and The United States Olympic Committee has set up 2 different training centers that work in conjunction with one another in helping elite female athletes reach their Olympic Dreams. The first U.S. Olympic Training Center,
the nation's only United States Olympic Education Center (USOEC),
is located in Marquette, Michigan on the campus of Northern Michigan University and The second U.S. Olympic Training Center (USOTC) is located in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
The high performance plan essentially entails 3 levels: recruiting, retaining, and training. These levels correlate with one another to keep senior elite level athletes who are participants in USA Wrestling resident athlete programs training for up to 8 year at U.S. Olympic Training Centers.
The USOEC freestyle resident athlete program is where it all starts. The purpose of the USOEC freestyle program is to recruit USA's top Jr. Level talent. Once athletes are invited and accepted to train at the USOEC, they are introduced to the Master Plan. The plan is to strengthen these individuals in all levels: Technically, Physically, Mentally, and finally Maturity. We need to see a certain level of consistency in training, performing and living. We need to see mature people striving for perfection. Once we see that this is no longer a sport but a way of life for the athletes then it is time to move them on. In short, the purpose of the USOEC is to take Jr athletes and transform them into Sr. Elite Level Athletes. At this time, the athletes will be invited to train at the USOTC in Colorado Springs , Colorado .
The purpose of the USOTC is to retain and train our National Team Level Athletes to World and Olympic Glory. At the USOTC, the coaches are in charge of training the athletes with the expert help of a sports performance team that includes the following services: Strength and Conditioning, Sports Psychology, Nutrition, and Sports Medicine. In working together, The USOEC and The USOTC will be responsible for giving the USOC and USA Wrestling World and Olympic Success.
Both the USOEC and the USOTC are invite only programs. Athletes can be invited to train with these programs in four different ways: On-Campus Residency (Room, Board, Training, and Performance Services), Off-Campus Residency (Board, Training, and Performance Services), Facility Use (Training Only), and finally Training Specials (Short Term Room, Board, Training, and Performance Services). When an athlete gains residency status they are also eligible to be considered for the B.J. Stupak Olympic Scholarship Program. This program also gives athletes the ability to get there education paid for at a public institution of there choice.
Athletes in both training centers will be exposed to high level training and high level athletes from around the world. The USOEC / USOTC athletes are also involved in all National Team Level Camps held at both Training Centers, throughout the year. Athletes from both training centers are involved in tours around the world, to enhance there athletic and personal development. Both the USOEC and the USOTC programs also play host to international teams each year for training and competitions.
The high performance plan that has been laid out has given USA Women's Wrestling much success. The US Women's Program will be a force in the world of wrestling as long as we have the support of the USOC and USA Wrestling to develop our young talent in a systematic approach.
